In an emergency, teachers and administrators must keep careful track of their students. They need to be accounted for at all times and released to a safe adult when possible. But how do you manage this process in a safe, consistent, easy to understand way during an emergency? With STARS of course!
Using STARS is simple:
- Each student receives an identity tag to wear with its own unique ID number.
- When the student is checked in, the red receipt on the top section of the tag is removed, filled in, and transfered to the weather resistant log sheet. The receipt includes helpful information like the student’s name, home room, and whether or not they are injured. The back of the identity tag includes places to mark injuries and note what care has been administered.
- Once an adult has arrived to take the student home, the green receipt tag can be removed from the bottom of the tag, filled in, and slid overtop of the green check in tag. This creates a clear visual record of who is still checked in, and who has left. The check out tag includes information about the person the student was released to: their name, signature, and an identifying piece of information, like a driver’s license number.
