General Info

MREs are multi-course, shelf-stable, ready-to-eat meals developed for feeding soldiers in the field. They are very similar to Canadian IMPs (Individual Meal Pack) with a water-activated meal heater included.

Each meal comes ready to eat straight from the package. They’re rugged, waterproof, and easy to open so you can take them anywhere. Each meal pack provides an average of 1,230 calories of US military grade food, with everything from drink mixes, to stews, pastas, and more. Military specifications are among the highest standards in the market, and each TOTAL PREPARE MRE meets or exceeds these requirements. Each meal pouch includes:

• Main course (listed below)
• 3-4 Side components (side, bread item, spread, snack, dessert)
• Beverage mix
• Mini Tootsie Rolls
• High power, safe to use, flameless meal heater
• Accessory Pack: spoon, napkin, salt, and pepper
• Coffee pack: coffee, creamer, and sugar.

Each TOTAL PREPARE MRE comes with 1-2 each of 8 menus. The current cases include:

Storage

Every case and meal pouch of TOTAL PREPARE MRE’s have the pack date (lot number) embossed on the outside. The pouches are high-density, water and tamper proof bags that help give the contents their extended shelf life. When possible, it’s best to keep your MREs in a cool and dry place that’s inaccessible rodents and other pests. Like military MREs the TOTAL PREPARE MRE meals have up to a 5 year shelf life if stored in temperatures up to 21° C. Unlike other MREs they still have a guaranteed 3 year lifespan between 22-27° C.

You can also freeze a TOTAL PREPARE MRE pouch if necessary. It won’t damage the food inside! Best to avoid repeated re-freezing however as that can increase the chance that the pouch lamination will fail (by a fraction of a percent, but still.) MRE menu items are packaged in a retort pouch to maximize their shelf life. Before the package is sealed, the food is commercially sterilized and the oxygen is removed. This means there’s very little possibility for any oxygen or bacteria to get into your food while the pouch remains sealed. Once a pouch has been opened or punctured, it should be consumed or thrown away immediately. There’s no additional protection beyond the pouch, so don’t store them near anything sharp!
