APPLE COBBLER
Crust
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup Augason Farms White Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Regular Rolled Oats
  • 2 cups Enriched Unbleached All Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
Apple Filling
  • 4 cups Augason Farms Dehydrated Apple Slices
  • 4 1/2 cups water or apple juice
  • 3/4 cup White Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons corn starch
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated orange zest, optional
Vanilla Sauce
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3/4 cup White Granulated Sugar
  • 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Crust: Melt butter in a medium sized saucepan. Add sugar and stir. Toss in oats. Then you can stir in flour and walnuts, mix together until crumbly. Press half of the crumb mixture into bottom of 9″x13″ baking dish.

For the Apples: Place apple slices and water, or juice, in large saucepan, bring to a low boil. Simmer 15 minutes. Add sugar, raisins, cinnamon, cornstarch and orange zest, optional. Spoon apple mixture into crust, sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake 350°F for 40 minutes.

Vanilla Sauce: Place milk and sugar in a medium saucepan. Heat on low, do not boil. Take 1/2 cup hot milk mixture and add egg yolks, mix well. Add egg mixture to pan, stirring constantly, and whisk in cornstarch while cooking until sauce thickens slightly. Stir in vanilla. Pour over cobbler and bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes longer. Serve warm.
