Go Eco-Friendly and Prepare for Emergencies at the Same Time!

Go Green with these Eco-friendly tips!

Do you like the expression “kill two birds with one stone,” but kind of wish it didn’t involve killing birds in the first place? I think you’re in good company. But hunting isn’t really the point of this blog post. It’s this exciting fact: you can get better prepared for emergencies AND reduce your carbon footprint at the same time!

And today, we’re going to share a few tips on how to do just that…

For those of you who are finely attuned to the impact you are having on the environment, you’re probably particular (in a good way) about what you buy. And with survival gear shopping, it should be no different!

  • Select survival supplies that will help you reduce your footprint. Total Prepare has a number of solar generators and solar-powered radios and flashlights that can be used for years without ever needing to plug them into a wall or feed them new batteries.
  • Did you know that low-impact camping can be good for the environment? (As long as you are respectful of the natural spaces where you choose to camp, and leave everything the way you found it.) If you shut off everything in your home before you go, in a way you’re implementing a mini Earth day! At the same time, camping is good practice for if you’re ever in an emergency where you need to be self-sufficient, surviving with only the supplies you’ve pre-gathered! So go camping!
  • Build your survival kit with reusable supplies, wherever possible.
  • For the items that need to be consumable (aka food!), make sure you mark down expiry dates so that you can remove food before it expires and eat it!
  • Instead of storing many plastic bottles of water, consider investing in just a few refillable water bottles that have built in filters, such as the Grayl Ultralight Purifier & Filter Bottle or the LifeStraw Go with 2-Stage Filtration.

This is just the start of how you can be eco-friendly and prepared for an emergency at the same time! Feel free to add to our list by commenting below or coming into our showroom in Victoria to meet us!
