Emergency Preparedness for the Back-to-School Season

Back to School

Can you believe it’s already September again? It’s impossible to ignore the leaves on the ground and the way that the air smells in the morning, bringing nostalgia with it. For many people, it’s a return to structure and even if you’re not returning to school, it can be a more natural time to make “new year” resolutions!

If you’re with us on this, and into making new goals in recognition of the back-to-school season, why not add one or two emergency preparedness goals to your list?

If you are attending classes this fall, or have kids that you’re sending back to school, it’s the perfect time to consider the safety of school campuses, and particularly the ones you or your friends are frequenting.

September is a time when many new programs are starting, so if you look around school and realize that an emergency plan is not in place—or is not up to your standards—you may want to get the ball rolling and take responsibility for a program that will provide security for you or your children, along with the whole classroom or campus.

Here are some steps you may want to consider taking:

  • Talk to an administrator at your school, and find out what kind of emergency preparedness program is in place.
  • If they’re missing emergency products, consider our Basic Classroom Emergency Kit or our Deluxe Classroom Emergency Kit to get the basics in place.
  • Organize an information session where people share their knowledge.
  • Devise a basic emergency plan and set up a meeting to get all students and teachers, etc. on the same page.

Of course, depending on the size of your school or campus, you may need help getting a program set up. No matter how far you think you can take it though, it’s always a good idea to get conversations started and see where they take you.
